My personal statement : first draft 

 

Music was always playing in my home and it was always part of my family's celebrations, because of this it always makes me happy. 

I find the logistics of the music business very exciting and I’m really interested in how music is produced and released into the world and how people get it and listen to it.

Learning more about music law, commercial music, releasing and marketing records really interests me, and I want to learn the skills to get a job in the music industry. This course particularly appeals to me as it is such a good mixture of business and music.

 

At the moment I am studying an extended diploma in festival, event and artist management where I have done a lot of different things  but my favorite thing was planning and going to different events. Due to covid it has put most of the events I had planned off, from this I have learned that you need to be prepared for anything that could happen and that you need to make sure if you are selling tickets for your event then you need to make them refundable.

I have also had an internship at Small Pond Records where I used my time  to help with promotion of the events they were putting on as well as I had to put the press release out to everyone as well as update the press release when an artist was reviewed or when their songs were played on the radio. From this I learnt how to write press releases and as well as what it takes to run the everyday of a record label, this experience made me want to pursue a career in the music industry. 

 

As well as the internship I have work in a few different retail shops such as Clintions and WHSmiths this will help me in the this course because when you are working in a shop you need to be able to talk to all sorts of people as well as that you need to be able to do your tasks in a time frame and if it's not done then it causes all sorts of problems for the other members of your team this also means that i have skills in working in teams to get a task done. I also have done babysitting, at the moment I am babysitting for a family that has three austsic children, this helps me because the family gives me a lot of responsibility and trust to look after their children. This has taught me that I need to be able to adjust the way I do things around the people as well as this means that I can adapt quickly to different situations.

I have a range of hobbies and interests that range from reading to horse riding. The books i like to read the most are crime or muder mystery, i like to read all sorts of books i feel this helps me in my writing because i come across different type of writing as well as new language to try in my work. I love horse riding. It is the one place I can clear my head because I can't think of anything but me and the horse. This means that when I go back to work after a ride I can do a far better job. 

My biggest interest would be music . I am constantly listening to music, i listen to it when I am working, when I am traveling to and from places , in the car and even in the shower. My friends and family get a bit sick of it because it can be the same song over and over again.

 

 The biggest accomplishment I have in my life so far is that in 2017 I climbed mount Snowdon in wales. This was one of the hardest things have done but it was well worth the struggle because the feeling i felt at the top was unbelievable, i feel this is relevant because it shows that when i have a goal i don't stop till i reach it and i think that i am the same with my career, i won't stop till i reach the top. I also have run three 5K in two years. This again shows that I am very motivated to do the goals that I have set for myself.

I have a lot of skill that i feel with be beneficial to the course but i will only say a few because i don't want to bore you, I feel that i am very organised i always have the materials i need for the projects as well as i am very good at handling my work in on time witch i suppose also comes under good time management, i also turn up to most of my classes on time, or at least i try. My family and friends tell me that i am a positive person and when they are sad i can help them feel better i guess i think that being positive most of the time mean that you will get further with people and that you can talk to more people witch i guess also comes under good communication for example i can ask for help when i need as well as i can talk to people i am going to work with, with confidence that i know what i am talking about. 

 

Overall I feel that this course is well suited to me and my future which I hope is going to involve me owning my own record label. I think I could produce some really great work as well as gain the skills to really thrive in the music industry.
